Why Does iTunes 9 Hate My Podcasts?

September 25, 2009 at 10:14 am Posted in Misc

iTunes podcast crashI have my iPod nano connected to iTunes and use to to auto update with the latest podcasts that I am subscribed to.  Now that I am upgraded to iTunes 9.1, very time I select the podcast tab within my ipod iTunes crashes!  Every time!  And it does not update my podcasts.

Does anyone know what the deal is?

I have seen the tutorials that tell you to do certain things but every one I try just causes itunes to crash.

What is going on?

Update:  I still do not know how to fix the problem but I used the tutorial in this post to revert back to iTunes 8  http://bit.ly/1PWeDT

The article is for mac so if you are on a windows computer (like me and the majority of the world) use this link to download the windows version of iTunes 8.2.1 http://bit.ly/qRxP8

Let me know how it goes.

    Hello,
very old post but since I had the same issue even with the latest iTunes (10.2.1), it may help. I found a reference somewhere that Perian can cause this issue. I removed it and it seems that the problem is gone. Do you have it installed? can you try and tell me if it fixes the pb?
    Thanks!

I have the same problem too… I tried almost everything… Restoring my iPod touch, resetting sync history, etc etc but whenever i click on Podcasts, it crashes… no matter what I do it ends up crashing… and I use iTunes 10.2.2.14.

The same thing used to happen with my iTunes U. But I tried anything and everything possible and somehow fixed it. I dunno what I did. But it got fixed all of a sudden.
And no I don’t have Perian installed in my laptop.

    Mr Thomas,

Hello and thank you for all your help^_^

In the end, I kinda took bits of advice from Mr Chen Chen from this page (Apple discussion board)
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3033439?start=15&tstart=0

My Podcasts problem got fixed. What I did was, disconnect from the internet and click on Podcasts. It did freeze for a while… For a few minutes I wasn’t able to do anything on iTunes. I carried on with my other work. And then when I got back Podcasts was working.

But the next day it was the same thing. What I did was: I stopped downloading Podcasts and iTunes U stuff simultaneously. I download them one by one, even though it takes a lot of time. And if Podcasts crashes, I wait or just carry on with my other online work and it starts working ^_^ But I don’t think it really crashed after that…

Now everything works perfectly fine. iTunes U and Podcasts. :)
