Untouched Mantles
When Elijah left the earth he was able to fulfill Elisha’s request by leaving his mantle behind and giving Elisha the opportunity to be the head prophet in Israel. But an important thing happened. Elisha went and picked it up. Did you ever catch that?
There was a brief moment, when there was no head prophet in Israel. Elijah has cast off his mantle. Elisha had not picked it up yet. It was there for the taking.
God will not force anyone to take up a mantle. God may thrust the believer into a situation but He will not force you to take up the call. That is your choice.
If I was one of those 50 prophets on the other side of the Jordan, I would have been running after the mantle. I would have made Elisha work for it. But that’s just me.
There are mantles that are laying dormant even now. I know men of God who are fighting the call. I see women of God who will not do what it takes to come into their destiny. For some, God has brought an authority that they do not want to submit to. Others will not give up the big comfy church to step out. Some times it is finances, relationships, attitudes or just plain laziness that separate people from that mantle and it just lies there – dormant.
The pride is that we have forever to choose to follow the call on our lives. This is a lie from the devil. I have met too many saints that are in their advanced years still waiting on the call that they refused to answer years earlier. I promised myself that I would never have to say that.
As a matter of fact, I am actively trying to pick up mantles that others have refused.
So if you see me staring intently as your get a prophetic word that you don’t want, you now know why. I’m watching for you to turn you back on the mantle.

This is one of my favorite stories… Good word.
