Prayer Request for Bill Johnson

April 9th, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Misc

Got this note from Eric Johnson, Bill Johnson’s son:

Friends and Family,

This week we had a surprising health situation come up with my Dad, Bill Johnson of Bethel Church in Redding. So I am writing to give you an update and a target for prayer.

Last week Bob Jones called and was concerned about my Dad’s health. As a result of Bob’s call my Dad went to the doctor to have some things checked on. He has had a hernia in the area of the abdomen that has caused some issues and discomfort. In checking out the hernia the doctors felt a surgery was needed the next day to fix it and felt good about the recovery. In preparing for the surgery they ran a routine blood test and had to cancel the surgery due to him being anemic. This set off another series of tests to determine what was going on. One of the tests involved checks for colon cancer and happened this morning. The results from this test show that his colon is in good health and he has no cancer. So, Yeah GOD!! They are going to run some more tests to see why he is anemic.

I had a dream last night and in the dream my neighbor was standing by his barbeque and there were some pretty big flames coming out of it. I was concerned that the flames would start a fire on my property. So I went and talked to my neighbor and he insisted that everything was fine. So I went back to my property and the flames got bigger and the wind started to blow the flames onto my property. Now I was really concerned and I told him that he needed to do something about his barbeque but he insisted that everything was ok. Then, out of nowhere, all these catholic nuns showed up on my property with rakes and shovels and they were making a fire line of protection around my property.

Part of Bob Jones warning was that the prayers of the church would be crucial in victory. So we are asking that you continue to pray for perfect health and life in my Dad’s body-that the hernia and anemia situations would quickly be healed and resolved. We are also asking that you pray from a position of strength and faith in the goodness of God for our family as a whole. Thank you.

We will keep you up dated as we know that some many of you are partnered with us in the Goodness of the Kingdom.

Blessings,

Eric Johnson

Life is Really Busy So I Have to Slow Down

April 1st, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Discipleship

bibleEvery Wednesday and Thursday morning I head out to the office for a time of study.  I block off the first half of my day and devote it to seeking the Lord through reading the Bible and whatever else He might lead me to study.

I generally do not have an adgenda during these times other than to drink coffee, and meditate on the W0rd.  To a lesser person this might seem frivolous.

This week I have a full plate.  We are having our preview service in a new location and there are a ton of details that I still need to attend to.  Just looking at my todo list for today alone is enough to send mere mortals into shock.

But still I went and spent time in the Word today.  What I studied may or may not make it into my sermon on Sunday.  I feel that if I watch over my time with God, He will watch over my ministry.  If I focus on my ministry, I very well may mess up both.

So today I put my  list on hold, got a cup of medium blend, cracked open the Bible and hung out with Jesus.

Don’t be tricked into thinking that you have to clear your todo list before you spend time with God.  You will never clear that list.  That is the plot of our enemy.  Write you time with God on your planner and don’t let anything mess with it.

The Mysterious Ways of The Spirit

February 3rd, 2009 | 1 Comment | Posted in Misc

I was prompted to pray an outlandish prayer today. It would take a several miracles for God to fulfill it. Though a handful of miracles is no more difficult than a single miracle for God, it still seemed like a crazy request.

The moment I asked it the Spirit of God came over me and I received a new tongue.

I have decided to take that as a “Yes” to the request.

You now have two choices. You can take the seat of the mockers, or you can come into agreement with the revelation that God is a good God.

You choose.

Think the Economy is Bad Here?

December 11th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Misc

I read this post in the New York Times about the cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe when I read this:

Inflation officially hit 231 million percent in July, but John Robertson, an independent economist in Zimbabwe, estimates that it has now surged to an astounding percentage rate: 8 followed by 18 zeros.

Pray for the people of Zimbabwe.  Life is going to get worse before it gets better.

While you are at it, add clean drinking water to the list of things you  thank God for tonight.
