Final Night of ASD

May 17th, 2010 | 2 Comments | Posted in The Mission

I don’t even know how many months ASD has been going but I could not be more proud of the folks that finished the class.  I have seen tremendous spiritual growth in every person in the group.  I am really excited about what God is going to do with each and every one of them.

The Foundations of Discipleship

May 8th, 2009 | No Comments | Posted in Discipleship

If you want to grow in your relationship with God it is good to have a mentor.  But I don’t think that a personal mentor is absolutely necessary.  Why?  Jesus promised that we would be mentored by the Holy Ghost.

Earthly mentors do the fine tuning.  If you do not have a submissive spirit and an ear to hear what the mentor is teaching you are wasting both of you time.

On that note, I regularly tell people that as Christians, we have a 4-point foundation we need to maintain to enable the Holy Ghost to mentor us.  If we do not have these things working in our lives we are delaying the process.

  1. Go to church every week.  Yeah, I know, we are the church.  Thats a really cute way to say that you are above being taught by any preacher.  But the fact remains, if you are not going to church every week the chances are you are living a compromised life.  Those who commit to fellowship and sitting under the preaching of the Word grow in Christ. (period)
  2. Read your Bible.  Wash your mind in the water of the Word.
  3. Pay your tithes.  This breaks so many strongholds in a person’s life I am amazed that I ever questioned it.  Though  I never stopped paying my tithe while I was deciding if I needed to pay my tithe.  The clincher?  One day God told me to.  btw, the tithe is the first 10%.  Its not some of what’s left.  Put God first.
  4. Pray in the Holy Ghost.  If you are saved and not filled with the Holy Ghost put that at the beginning of you prayer list from now till you get filled.  If you have received the baptism pray in tongues all the time.  Like right now.  Do it.

How to Give a Testimony

December 11th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Discipleship

I know there are lots of scripts and methods to win the lost but there is nothing more effective then sharing your testimony with someone you have a relationship with.  This requires three things:

  1. You have a testimony.  Not everyone who calls themselves a Christian has been converted. ’nuff said
  2. You care enough about a lost and dieing world to form relationships with people you might otherwise not spend time with.
  3. You are able to effectively communicate what Jesus has done in your life.

The best way to get good at giving your testimony is to hear others give their testimonies and to give your testimony as often as possible.  I tell the folks at The Mission that evangelism is the best way to work out your ministry gifting.  Don’t tell me you have a call of God on your life if you don’t want to win the people He died for.

I am Second is a site I recently found that has some really remarkable testimonies.  Not because of how dramatic they are, but because they are so effectively communicated.  If I still had my discipleship class I would assign this site as homework.
