Revival Culture VS Revival

December 9, 2009 at 10:35 am Posted in Discipleship

I have been hungry for revival for almost as long as I have been saved.  In that time I have seen remarkable moves of the Spirit of God, yet very few of those moves were revival.  At The Mission, I can confidently say that we have a revival culture without having revival.  Revival culture is good, but I want more.

Make no mistake, revival culture is what we are all called to, yet very few achieve.  In revival culture the supernatural is expected to be a way of life and the miracles of the bible are contended for. Revival culture is a pressing into the things of God with the belief that God is waiting to reveal more of Himself in every act of faith.

Often great signs and wonders are present in revival culture.  Great miracles can take place, impossible healings happen, bizarre events occur in the wind, sky and water, visual manifestations and the likes.  People are empowered with gifts and minister them with great boldness.  It really is quite glorious.

Yet it is still not revival.

Revival can breed revival culture yet the only things needed for that culture is a group of people to believe the bible and a desire to obey the commands of Jesus.  At The Mission, we have fostered a revival culture and we guard it like precious jewels.  We see people revived, empowered, healed, and commissioned.  We see supernatural occurrences all the time.  Yet this is still not revival.

The key component of revival that may not be present in revival culture is simple, the fear of the Lord.  Those who are in revival culture often brag of their spiritual exploits.  They seek to market them and be enriched by the thing they built.

When the Lord shows up on the scene, none can stand in His presence.  None steal His glory.  None boast in their accomplishments.  When revival comes, we are consumed with the things of God.

In revival culture we seek to extend the ministry of Jesus: heal the sick, cleanse the leper, raise the dead, cast out demons.  In revival, we seek to further the purpose of Jesus: to seek and save the lost, by healing the sick, cleansing the leper, raising the dead, casting out devils.

Jesus told us to walk in the supernatural.  So we foster a revival culture by stirring ourselves up.  But we seek the day that the Lord comes and he draws Delray Beach to Himself.  All the work will be on His end and no flesh will boast.
