Resolutions for 2009
There is nothing special about January 1. In fact there is nothing special about any day, unless you decide to make it special. I decided to make January 1st a day of new beginnings of sorts.
Lots of people make resolutions for the new year as if just making the resolutions would mean something. Go to any gym tomorrow and it will be full. Go again in February and it will be back to normal.
But when we ask the Lord to search our hearts and find things taht He wants us to work out, we can then rely on the strength of the Holy Ghost to help mold our lives into the image of Christ.
It is not difficult task for God to find things in my life that need tuned up so here are a few of the resolutions that I have made for this new year:
- Read through the entire New Testament with my son Isaac this year. Here is the plan we will follow.
- Keep my blood pressure in check by whatever means that requires.
- Fast at least 40 days this year (not necessarily in a row).
- Date my wife more.
- Better record the things that God speaks to me. I get a lot and I record very little. I need to track that better.
I am not planning to run a marathon or anything else that is obviously beyond who I am. But I chose to make January 1st a signifigant day because on that day I chose to do something about my life.
Every week I give an invitation for people to make the biggest change by accepting Jesus as their Savior. While I am inviting others to change, ministers need to keep themselves open to change.
