Lots of People Give Counsel. Few People Give Good Counsel.

November 18, 2009 at 3:58 pm Posted in Discipleship

We know that there is wisdom in a multitude of counsel.  But not all counsel is the same.

I have recently found myself in the same scenario with different people.  I talk to someone who has found themselves in the midst of pure nonsense.  When I try to deconstruct how they got in the situation they give me the same answer.  They sought dating advice from someone bound in lust.   They get financial advice from people who have no money.  They get advice about ministry from folks that are no closer to ministry than they are.  Why do they get advice from people like this?

Because they tell you what you want to hear.

Lots of people give counsel, but few people give good counsel.

Stop talking to people who are only going to tell you what you want to hear.  Make it a point to get counsel from folks who are going to tell you the truth, in wisdom, no matter how it makes you feel.

Just because you got someone’s opinion does not mean you got counsel.
