Delray Beach Got it Right – No Menorah in Old School Square

December 10, 2009 at 6:50 am Posted in Misc

Every year the city of Delray Beach puts up a massive (fake, hollow) tree in Old School Square as part of a wintry display downtown.  This year, there are a few news stories reporting that the City is not going to put up a Menorah as it did in years past.  I say good job!

The argument went that if a Christian display was allowed, then other faiths should have representation as well.  I agree with that.  The city said that the tree is not a religious symbol and if they let one faith have a display then they could not prevent even the most radical sects from having a display.

What the complaintants fail to recognize is that a 60 foot tree with lights on the outside and animatronic ice skaters on the inside is not a representation of the virgin birth of the Messiah.

If Delray really wants to represent the different faiths in Old School Square, I volunteer to bring a group of healing evangelists from The Mission to give a New Testament demonstration of Christianity every night from now till the return of Jesus.

I think that would be a fair representation.

Just saw an announcement by the city that they are having a menorah lighting tomorrow. When shall I bring the revivalists?
